Most of our current environmental legislation was passed decades ago, after 20 million Americans protested egregious crimes like the Santa Barbara oil spill of 1969 and the destruction of Lake Erie. Subsequent laws protecting our air, water and endangered species gave individual citizens the right to sue polluters for damages. RFK Jr. spent decades arguing their cases. As president, he will continue to uphold the rights of everyday people by holding polluters responsible for their messes.
