IDF releases video of its soldiers operating in Gaza as Def Sec Austin arrives in Israel

The Israeli army (IDF) released video on Monday (December 18) it said shows its soldiers fighting in Gaza, as U.S.-Israel talks on a transition to the next phase of the war got underway.

Residents and militants said there was fierce fighting the length of the Gaza Strip with communications down for a fourth day.

The IDF videos show ground troops entering buildings and firing various weapons and flying drones, while other video released show aerial strikes said to be on Hamas targets in Gaza.

Reuters was not able to independently verify the location or the date when the videos were filmed.

U.S. Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin arrived in Israel on Monday for discussions expected to cover Israel's eventual end to high intensity war in Gaza and its transition to a more limited, focused conflict, officials say.

Israel has stepped up attacks on the Palestinian enclave, saying military pressure was the only way hostages held by Hamas militants would be freed.

The accidental killing of three of the hostages on Friday by Israeli forces has increased pressure on the prime minister to secure the release of the others, but Hamas has said it will not negotiate any exchange "unless the aggression against our people stops once and for all".
