Doom: Sigil 2 (Unity Add-On) - E6M1: Cursed Darkness (UV-Max)

With the end of one Doom add-on comes the beginning of another, and this one was just released onto the Unity port yesterday in honor of Doom's 30th anniversary! Welcome to Sigil 2!

Sigil 2 is the follow-up to John Romero's previous 25th-anniversary special episode Sigil, made in honor of Doom's 30th anniversary. Like the first Sigil, Sigil 2 has two separate soundtracks for the standalone PC release: a MIDI soundtrack by James Paddock (the featured soundtrack in the Unity Add-on release), and an original soundtrack by Bryant "Thorr" Lowry (as opposed to Buckethead who did the original soundtrack for the first Sigil).

Like the first Sigil, Sigil 2 is a standard-length Doom 1-style episode, with 8 regular levels and 1 secret level. While the first Sigil was billed as an unofficial "Episode 5" of Ultimate Doom, Sigil 2 is likewise billed as "Episode 6", with the maps being labeled E6M1, E6M2, etc.

This wad is billed as being nastier than the first Sigil, with enemy encounters over precarious lava pits, and a Cyberdemon on every level on the harder difficulties (Ultra-Violence and up)! Honestly, the hardest part of this wad is just getting your foot in the door on the first map. This ranks right up there with "Shadow Port" from Back To Saturn X Episode 2 as the most brutal first map I've ever played in a Doom wad! And of course it wouldn't be a John Romero map without a crapton of secrets!
