In chapter 2 Ruth goes out to glean in a field, and she "happens" to go to the field of Boaz. Unknown to her, it is the field of a close relative of her late husband. And when Boaz lays eyes on Ruth, it's love at first sight. Boaz quickly places Ruth under his protection.
