Ruth is a beautiful short story of love. It is a story of love at first sight. It presents the love side of redemption. However in this first chapter we hear of loss and heat-break, family tragedy. We finish the chapter with 2 destitute women seemingly without hope. But now they're living in the house of bread and in the land of praise. In Ruth Ch 3, Naomi instructs Ruth on how to claim Boaz as her Goel or kinsman redeemer. Ruth obeys Naomi and goes late at night to the threshing floor. She sneaks in after everyone has gone to sleep and sleeps at the feet of Boaz. Boaz wakes up in the middle of the night and is startled to find Ruth at his feet. Ruth asks Boaz to be her redeemer, to marry her. It's at this point in the narrative we find out that another man is in the mix. Sydney based, verse by verse study of the book of Ruth. Part 3 of 4. Fleet footed Boaz is busy in this chapter. He deals with the nearer kinsman, redeems Naomi's land, in the site of 10 elders (and the people of Bethlehem), & most important of all, he claims Ruth proudly as his bride. He & Ruth have a child, whom the women of Bethlehem name Obed. And we get the full connection of the family tree from Judah to king David. What the law excluded, grace overcame. We also uncover the deeper prophetic truths hidden below the surface of the story line. The kinsman redeemer (Boaz) is a type of Christ, the one who was willing and able to redeem us. The nearer kinsman is a type of the Law, who had no love for us or no power to redeem us. Naomi is a type of Israel, the un-named servant is a type of the Holy Spirit, & the reapers are a type of the angels.
