The Grand Rapids Red Project is able to detect dangers in the area's illicit drug supply

The Red Project is funded by a federal grant over three years and uses a process to check for fentanyl and other substances. Samples of drugs around the size of a grain of rice can be scanned, and at least 80-percent of opioids sampled were contaminated with fentanyl, which can easily kill someone.
