Struggling with a reactive, overly aroused dog❓

Here’s 3 mistakes you might be making:

👉You’re always holding your dog back! All that leash tension tends to create more conflict and ramp your dog up more. Instead, give your dog *some* leash (within reason) allow them to make a choice (right or wrong) and then give them information based on that choice. There comes a point in every dog’s training where we have to “set them up to fail” so we know for sure if they’re capable of making good decisions on their own.

👉You’re not addressing the small stuff. If your dog is constantly breaking commands, sniffing and taking its sweet time on a recall, turning its back on you to stare at triggers, this ALL matters. It’s never just about the leash reactivity. It’s everything combined. All the small conversations you have with your dog throughout the day stack.

👉You’re not giving your dog enough information to instill clear boundaries. Lots of times, owners hold back on giving dogs meaningful corrections/information out of fear of “hurting their dogs feelings” meanwhile, the dog is confused and lacking the clarity it really needs. Giving your dog information that it understands is one of the best things you could ever do for them. And it makes the bond stronger.
