Austal Secures Contract for Advanced Expeditionary Medical Ships

This deal, valued for its potential to enhance the Navy's medical capabilities at sea, comes as Austal nears completion of the U.S. Navy's Expeditionary Fast Transport Program (T-EPF).

The EMS will be equipped to provide a comprehensive range of medical services, including critical care, triage, operating rooms, radiology, mental health, and primary care. What sets these ships apart is their mobility and shallow draft, allowing them to navigate shallower and smaller ports that are inaccessible to larger vessels in the fleet. This capability will significantly improve the Navy's ability to respond rapidly to injuries in various locations.

Austal CEO Paddy Gregg emphasized the importance of the new Expeditionary Medical Ship, stating, "The new Expeditionary Medical Ship further extends the capabilities of the proven Expeditionary Fast Transport platform, designed and constructed by Austal, to enable more complex medical procedures and operations to be performed onboard, at sea and underway."

Having fulfilled numerous U.S. military contracts since its inception in 1999, Austal's track record has positioned it as a key player in naval shipbuilding. The EMS contract builds upon the success of the Expeditionary Fast Transport Program, with Austal set to commence work on the medical ships following the delivery of the 16th vessel under the T-EPF initiative.
