This video I thought was the dumbest topic request I've ever taken but the more I looked into why Europeans wear speedos to the beach aka budgie smugglers or banana hammocks the more I realised that it's women that shape male fashion depending on the men they find attractive. Joseph asked me about this and I quote: "Sandman, I love your perspectives. Could you do a video on why it's not socially acceptable here in the West for men to wear a Speedo or nylon brief style swimsuits to a beach or a public pool, or even short shorts like they did in the 80s. I think a lot of men would rather wear something like that swimming instead of big baggy board shorts that get waterlogged and don't dry out quickly, but we can't because we'll be mocked by women (and other men) for being gay even if we aren't. Women would also be disgusted and threatened by any sign of a bulge and penis shame us for that. Meanwhile it's socially acceptable and even encouraged for beached land whales to wear micro bikinis that let all the folds of fat flap in the ocean breeze. Why is it accepted and courageous for chubby single moms to stuff their stretch marked camel toe into a thong bikini but I can't show up at the beach dressed like Daniel Craig without expectations of ridicule. What happened to equality?" Well Joseph thanks for the donation and topic. Researching this topic I realised that it's probably because beach bunnies in commiefornia found surfer dudes attractive in the 50s and 60s and other guys saw women swooning over surfers back then and so they tried to emulate them as a sort of male chameleon. Then in the 70s and 80s women entered the surfing world and started competing. Hence the female chameleon. Women decided that the California beach hunk Chad with blonde hair and a surf board was the man they wanted so suddenly every guy wanted to be that guy or project that they were him. Part of that meant tossing out the speedo that was popular in the 70s or 80s and putting on surfer shorts. I think it also shifted guys from wearing briefs into boxers as well. In America it seems that children wear briefs, and teens and adults wear boxers. It makes sense from a biological factor as well because boxers means a higher fertility rate because wearing a plumb smuggler pushes your nads up into warmer nether regions reducing your swimmer count. Plus as you pointed out Joseph there is no shaming language for men wearing shorts unlike Speedos that are called budgie smugglers or banana hammock. That term budgie smugglers stuck because apparently someone in Australia tried carrying a birds through customs in their trousers in their tighty whities. I used to wear briefs until I was in high school and tried boxers and was like oh wow why the hell was I wearing briefs to begin with? Boxers feel more better and more comfortable. Speedos look freeing but they don't feel that way to me. But Americans still wear them where appropriate, ie competitive swimming where they are worn for speed. Hence the name speedos. Speed is not as important as when you're on a surf board out of the water. These days if you wear a speedo to the beach unless you're athletic you'll end up looking like a creep.
