A RAINBOW AIN'T NOTHIN' BUT COLORED LIGHT

Splashed each other in baby baths,
Our mamas used to, tell us.
Almost got lost down by Rain Lily Pond,
Made our way home, without a fuss.

Ran together through hot August storms,
Held your hand, in mine so tight.
Chasing down that faraway rainbow,
Finding love, counting colors of light.

Beneath that ol’ willow tree,
We imagined, and schemed,
Whispering tales, revealing secrets,
Confessing our, grownup dreams.

Shared ourselves in quiet green fields,
Alone on, sunny afternoons.
Vowed to leave this quiet town when,
School ended, come June.

But the real world,
Isn’t simple.
Workadays,
Quiet passing time.
Woke one morning,
To a note.
You’d no longer,
Be mine.

A rainbow ain't,
Nothing but,
Colored light,
Or so, I'm told.
If all you find,
At the end,
Is a pot of,
Fool's gold.

Today in passing,
A friend told me,
You became a bride,
Not long ago.
Caught my breath,
For a moment,
Took a drive to that,
ol’ willow.

Spent time,
In its shadow.
Wondering if you,
Thought of us.
Or remembered me,
Kiss your cheek?
And scratch our names
Forever in the tree?

A rainbow ain't, nothing but, colored light, or so I'm told.
If all you find, at the end, is a pot of, fool's gold.

Each morning I wake up without you,
Miss the sun, in your eyes,
At night I stare through my reflection,
Hope to see you, in the moonlight.
