Sources say Gerard Butler will be reprising the role he voiced in Universal’s live-action How to Train Your Dragon film. The film is set for a June 2025 release. It was announced in May 2023 that Mason Thames and Nico Parker will be playing the roles of Hiccup and Astrid.

Many online voiced concerns with the casting of Parker in the role of Astrid seeing as how Astrid is a blonde haired blue eyed white girl while Parker is of mixed race. It would appear this is another example of Hollywood race swapping a prominent character in a live action remake.
