Explaining the $10K USD Limit for Border Crossings and Customs for Travelers

Vlog 4 January 2023 | Nearly all countries limit you to bringing ten thousand dollars in US currency equivalent into their country when you are crossing their border, unless you declare it. It's straight foward and a nearly universal requirement. But very few people understand it. Why does it exist and what does it really mean?

[Edit] The US itself does the $10K limit "by household", not by individual. I believe that they are unique in this. I've not found another country that limits in that way, nor does "household" mean the same thing around the world the way that it does in the US so it seems like it would be unique.
