Football takes centre stage in Africa, with AFCON kicking off this weekend. But it’s fair to say the sport has been ‘more than just a game’ during the continent’s history. Even though it was introduced by colonial powers, it was quickly used against them to promote unity and Pan-Africanism. And the Confederation of African Football played a major part.
