There was a time when the concept of a moral hazard was a good thing but that was when the whole notion of morality had some status and importance to people. People understood the idea that if you created a situation in which someone might gain by behaving immorally without it having any punishment or loss of status or otherwise balancing consequences then people, like children let loose with their parents’ platinum credit card in a sweet shop might end up doing sickening things. The only trouble with our world-leader-children is that they have unlimited credit cards and their sweetie jars contain war, pestilence, indifference and malice and their answer to moral hazard is to remove or ignore it on some pretend emergency basis. “If you eat too many, they’ll make you sick!”.
