In what can only be described as a magical evening amidst the iconic New York City skyline, the Dave Matthews Band sauntered on to the Great Lawn in Central Park, September 24, 2003 to shake, rattle & roll the crowd of 120,000; the largest crowd ever for the band.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the Manhattan skyline, the DMB kicked off their set with an energy that permeated the entire crowd. The vastness of the Great Lawn was transformed into an intimate space as the band effortlessly connected with the audience through their signature blend of rock, jazz, and folk.
Matthews' distinctive vocals resonated through the night air, setting the tone for a musical journey that would span their extensive catalog. The band's musicianship was nothing short of exceptional, with each member showcasing their virtuosity in a way that only a group with two decades of chemistry can. The synchronicity between Matthews' acoustic guitar, LeRoi Moore's saxophone, and Boyd Tinsley's violin created a sonic landscape that was both intricate and harmonious.
The setlist for the evening was a well-curated mix of classics and newer tracks, pleasing fans both old and new. Songs like "Crash Into Me" and "Ants Marching" had the crowd singing along in unison, while newer tracks from the then-recently released "Some Devil" album added a fresh and dynamic element to the performance.
One of the standout moments of the night was the extended jams and improvisations that showcased the band's unparalleled ability to create a unique experience for each audience. The Great Lawn became a canvas for musical exploration as Dave Matthews Band seamlessly transitioned between genres, keeping the audience on their toes and ensuring that no two moments were alike.
