Upper Peninsula School Board Adopts New Mascot

It’s Official! The Sentinels will be the new nickname for Marquette Area Schools.

With a six-to-one vote, the Marquette Area Public School Board voted to adopt the school’s new nickname, after dropping The Redmen and Redettes.

This vote finally comes after months of debate in the community, thousands of suggestions, and feedback from students.

The board said the public is still encouraged to email suggestions on mascot and design.
