In her effort to escape, Borden collided with a patrol car. Despite this, she managed to reverse and continue driving, even as another officer tried to extract her from the passenger side. This led to a pursuit by several patrol cars.

Amid the chaos, one officer discharged his firearm, wounding Borden in the arm. Following the incident, Borden faced several charges, including shoplifting and hit-and-run, marking a significant escalation from the initial shoplifting allegation.
