In a couple of months (April 8th, 2004), most of North Texas will witness a rare event: a total solar eclipse, where the moon will completely cover the sun, creating a stunning sight.

One school district in North Texas is taking this event seriously. They've decided to give students and teachers the day off on April 8th so they can witness this incredible celestial phenomenon. This district, Ennis ISD, which is approximately 40 miles south of Dallas, made the decision early.

They anticipate that many people will want to see the eclipse, especially since Ennis is right along the path where it'll be most visible. Additionally, the city expects around 200,000 visitors, which could lead to significant traffic congestion and make it difficult for kids to get to school.

Ennis isn't a large city – only about 22,890 people live there according to the latest count. While they understand that closing schools might be inconvenient, officials believe it's the best decision. They hope that providing advance notice will help everyone plan accordingly.
