I’m Papa Penguin and this is a breaking Military Minute.

3 U.S. service members have been killed and 25 more injured from an Iranian drone strike in Jordan.

President Biden stated “The United States will hold all those responsible to account at a time and in a manner our choosing.”

This marks the first U.S. deaths since the outbreak of hostilities between Hamas and Israel.

While it is believed the attack was motivated by the current Israel and Hamas war, there is no love lost between Jordan and Iran. Aside from religious differences, Jordan is majority Sunni and Iran is majority Shia, there are also increased tensions from alleged Iranian drug trafficking.

Jordan recently conducted air strikes in multiple countries across the region in response to allegations Hezbollah, an Iranian backed militia, had been smuggling large quantities of illegal drugs into their country. Their targets have been farms and warehouses believed to be involved in the movement of those narcotics.
