Part one of this series looked at how conservative American Christianity responded to intellectual challenges in the 1800s by withdrawing from public discourse and constructing an anti-intellectual understanding of the Christian faith.

This reaction resulted in a marginalized church with a softer influence on Christ as well as a secular culture.

Part two of this series will go into how secular society has influenced modern Christian thought and what we can do to counteract its influence on our Christlike mindset.
