The majority of people in social interactions are reactive.

They have nothing planned, nothing thought out, and when people speak to them they just blurt out the first reaction that comes to mind.

Calibration is to be more methodical and what appears as a reaction, is actually a well crafted and well thought out response to handle these moments.

To take your social skills to the next level, you have to cultivate this habit of "thinking before you speak", otherwise you are at the mercy of whatever emotional outburst occurs in reaction to someone.
