How To Prepare Pork Spare Ribs For The Bbq Challenge
@CookingwithRon-lc6ww
Instructions:
1. Purchase Quality Ribs:
Start by selecting high-quality pork spare ribs from your local butcher or grocery store. Look for ribs with good marbling and meaty sections.
2. Prepare Your Work Area:
Ensure your work area is clean and free from any contaminants. Wash your hands thoroughly before handling the meat.
3. Preheat the Grill or Oven (Optional):
If you plan to grill the ribs, preheat your grill to medium-low heat (around 275-300°F/135-150°C). If you're using an oven, preheat it to the same temperature.
4. Rinse and Pat Dry:
Rinse the ribs under cold running water to remove any bone fragments or excess blood. Pat them dry with paper towels.
5. Remove the Membrane:
On the bone side of the ribs, locate the thin membrane covering the meat. Using a knife or your fingers, gently loosen a corner of the membrane. Once you've lifted it slightly, grip it with a paper towel to get a better grip, then pull it off in one piece. Removing the membrane will help your seasonings penetrate the meat and result in more tender ribs.
6. Season the Ribs:
Generously season both sides of the ribs with salt and pepper. You can also add additional seasonings like garlic powder, paprika, or brown sugar for extra flavor. If using a barbecue sauce or marinade, save this step for later.
7. Let Them Rest (Optional):
For more flavor, you can wrap the seasoned ribs in plastic wrap or aluminum foil and refrigerate them for a few hours or overnight. This allows the seasonings to infuse the meat.
8. Apply Barbecue Sauce or Marinade (Optional):
If you're using a sauce or marinade, apply it generously to both sides of the ribs. Use a brush or your hands to ensure even coverage. This step is typically done just before cooking.
9. Prepare for Cooking:
If grilling, place the ribs on the preheated grill and cook over indirect heat. Close the grill lid and cook for about 2.5 to 3 hours, flipping occasionally and basting with additional sauce if desired. If using an oven, place the ribs on a baking sheet and cook for the same amount of time, occasionally basting with sauce.
10. Check for Doneness:
- Ribs are done when they are tender and the internal temperature reaches around 190-203°F (88-95°C).
11. Rest and Serve:
- Allow the ribs to rest for a few minutes before cutting into individual servings. Enjoy your deliciously seasoned and perfectly cooked pork spare ribs!
