Episode 1603: St. Joseph of Leonissa

St. Joseph of Leonissa, also known as San Giuseppe da Leonessa, was born on January 8, 1556, in Leonessa, Italy, as Giuseppe Desa. He belonged to a devout Christian family and showed signs of piety from an early age. His birth name was Giuseppe Desa.

At the age of 14, Giuseppe joined the Capuchin Franciscan Order, where he took the name Joseph. He dedicated himself to a life of prayer, penance, and helping those in need. St. Joseph of Leonissa was known for his austere lifestyle and deep devotion to God.

Throughout his life, St. Joseph demonstrated a strong commitment to serving others. He devoted himself to the care of the sick during times of plague, showing great compassion and selflessness. St. Joseph of Leonissa was also known for his preaching, emphasizing the importance of repentance and a virtuous life.

St. Joseph's feast day is celebrated on February 4th. He is venerated as the patron saint of Leonessa, Italy, and those suffering from illness.
