Crisis in the Northwest: A Portland, OR Tale

Check out Fox News' Digital video report on the ongoing fentanyl crisis that has just decimated the once beautiful and peaceful city of Portland.

Oregonians, in November of 2020, passed Ballot Measure 110, "(reclassifying) possession/penalties for specified drugs."

Drugs affected include heroin, methamphetamine, PCP, LSD and oxycodone, as well as others. The Drug Policy Alliance non-profit organization was behind the measure. The new law would reclassify the penalty for drug possession as a Class E civil violation. The new law was aimed to reduce the racial disparities in policing, and was projected to reduce black arrests by 94%.

The new law came into effect on February 1, 2021.

Now, just 3 short years later, in February of 2024, Oregon officials have declared a State of Emergency in address to the fentanyl crisis in Portland.

"This shouldn't be legal. They're killing the mentally ill for $1 a pill," stated one PDX resident.

“Fentanyl is the single deadliest drug threat our nation has ever encountered. Fentanyl is everywhere. From large metropolitan areas to rural America, no community is safe from this poison. We must take every opportunity to spread the word to prevent fentanyl-related overdose death and poisonings from claiming scores of American lives every day.” - DEA Administrator Anne Milgram
