It was thought that snakes are in the process of evolution of lizards, and the reptiles which lack limbs are called snakes because there are some lizards where they have hind limbs or they may be limbless.
Snakes produce venom to kill the prey and it also produces the venom to protect themselves from any predators, generally, venom produced by the snakes is very less, so they generally don’t waste it on non-prey organisms.
