Virgin Australia Economy X Class Melbourne To Tokyo on new 737 MAX Flight Review

This is a review of a brand new Route. Virgin Australia flying from Cairns to Haneda Tokyo on a new Boeing 737 MAX.

Return Economy (1 leg) and Economy X (3 legs) flights cost AUD $750 each plus 125,000 Virgin frequent flyer point each. This was the very cheapest flight we could find at the time of booking. Most other airlines were charging upwards of $2,500 each return, all stopping at one or two other airports and the Qantas direct flight in Economy over $3,000 each. I recall business flights being around $8k - $12k each!!!

I flew Economy from Melbourne to Cairns on a 737-800 on VA 1291 with a scheduled departure of Melbourne at 6:40 am.

We were in Economy X for the flight from Cairns to Haneda on the new route and Virgin Australia's new Boeing 737 MAX, VA 77.

It was around AUD $50 each for the upgrade from Economy to Economy X - Well worth it I think.

I also review the Virgin Lounge at Melbourne Airport and the International departure lounge at Cairns Airport.

We woke up at 3 AM to get to the airport shortly before 5 am. It's around 11 hours of flying plus a layover. We arrived at our hotel around 10 pm - a very long day!

Scheduled flight times:
- Va 1291 leave Melbourne 06:40
- Arrive Cairns 10:05 ~ 3 hr 25 min flight time
- Leave Cairns 13:15 ~ 3 hr 10 min layover
- Arrive Haneda 20:00 ~ 7 hr 45 min flight time

Both flights left a few minutes before their scheduled departure.
