1️⃣ Booking a cheap flight BEFORE checking accommodation prices
If something sounds too good to be true … it probably is. If time permits, do things in reverse. Check the accommodation prices FIRST. Flight might be more expensive but you will get ‘your money back’ with cheaper room rates. Trust me on this!

2️⃣ Having an overambitious itinerary and no time off
You should do your research and plan in advance. Absolutely! But don’t end up like me when in Japan, when every minute of my trip was full booked. Having a rest during a trip is as important as sightseeing.

3️⃣ Not counting the money when exchanging currencies
ALWAYS count your money and check you have been given the correct amount at the point of exchange. Check it even if the server uses a counting machine or counts it out right in front of you. Always! I lost quite a few € not paying being to trustworthy.

4️⃣ Carrying souvenirs and consumables that are illegal
In MANY countries, collecting sand is illegal. And you can be fined from $100.000 in Hawaii, $10.000 on the spot in Australia, jain in Philippines. Don’t ask why I know. You might not want to carry fruit to New Zealand (fine $400), ivory products…

5️⃣ Traveling without or having the wrong visa
It REALLY sucks when you find out your visa is not in the system. Or finding out you need a visa for a country. Let me tell you, not a great feeling with either of those. Do not recommend.
