Part 3 | When can you see Naghol Land diving?

Naghol Land diving ritual in Vanuatu can be seen in the months of April, May and June. These months coincide with the yam harvest and with the time lianas or tree vine are have the most optimal flexibility for the jumps.

When selecting a liana, accuracy is paramount. Only a couple of grams of excess weight or a couple of cm of dry vine can lead to catastrophic consequences. Liana may break and land diving injuries or fatalities can occur.

One of the recorded land diving deaths happened in 1974 during the visit of Queen Elizabeth's to Vanuatu. They wanted the Queen to see the show. But the visit was in the fall and the lianas were too dry. Lianas broke which resulted in fatal injuries and later death.
