Paul Murphy - 'Resonances' . Demo/Take 1

This is the first run-through of a new song, some 15 minutes old at this point. I thought 'Exit Wounds' would be the last song I ever wrote, turns out I was wrong, although only by 1. Nonetheless, 42 years on from my first song, I'm still glad to be given them, even if I am too physically impaired to do them justice now.

I'm searching for answers
In an unwritten book
You tell me you're waiting
But not where to look
I only know strangers
Or, so it seems
Implicating my thoughts
And invading my dreams

That cross you're wearing
Won't bring absolution
Your mother's past caring
If she gets retribution
I went for your heart
You went for my throat
Here alone in the dark
I can still hear you gloat

Your lips burn like fire
Your caress cuts so deep
You opened up your memories
Sneering "Read 'em and weep"
One kiss in the garden
And the sentries arrived
The judge said I'd be pardoned
If I walked out alive

You showed me the banquet
But wouldn't let me eat
You said "You get what you paid for"
"Now my revenge is complete"
Each door you open
Leaves someone crying out, "Mercy!"
I could be ten years dead
You'd still stand there and curse me

Your setting-sun stare
Froze my soul to the core
You whispered "See you in Hell"
I said "Just like before"
Your words are weapons
Cold and serrated
Someone carve on my tombstone
'If Only I'd Waited'

The corridor is endless
The hourglass is low
Everyone dies friendless
One day, you'll know
It's time to strike camp
Meet me at the black river
The ferryman's at hand
I wonder who he'll deliver
