As Moscow is suffering major troop losses in its attempts to seize the entirety of Donetsk Oblast, the Russian military has resorted to dumping the bodies of its fallen soldiers in makeshift morgues, often located in abandoned schools in the region, Ukraine’s National Resistance Center reported.
“Due to high casualties in Avdiivka, Russians are placing the bodies of soldiers in abandoned schools,” the message said.
“Morgues in occupied Donetsk are overfilled due to the large number of Russian ‘meat assaults’ at Avdiivka.”
According to the report, the Russian military is also using mobile crematoria near Avdiivka. This information was reportedly supplied by the local resistance movement.
Ukraine’s General Staff reports that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion in Ukraine, Russia has sustained more 400,000 casualties.
A senior U.S. defense official revealed staggering Russian losses from Moscow's brutal war in Ukraine, citing 315,000 Russians killed or wounded, at least 20 Russian navy vessels sunk, and up to $211 billion in direct financial costs to supply and sustain its military operations.
Russia has also lost an estimated $10 billion in postponed or canceled arms sales, along with another $1.3 trillion in previously anticipated economic growth through 2026, according to the U.S. official. The casualty numbers mirror a declassified U.S. intelligence assessment that was first shared with Congress in December. But while Ukrainian forces have seen successes against the Russian navy, Russian ground forces have continued to make gains in the Ukrainian city of Avdiivka.
