"They Don't Make 'Um Like They Used To" Performed by David Jones of The Carter Family, Words & Music by Philip Adams
"They Don't Make 'Um Like They Used To", a PoPaBiLLy MuZic original Song #14 (c) 9/14/1998. Written by Philip Adams, and Music Composed by the Great and late David Jones of The Carter Family. This song recognizes characteristics young men commonly identify and learn about first-hand, directly from the example set before them, their mothers. The tender-loving care, concern and patience, understanding and interest, patience and kindness, nurturement and encouragement our mothers tirelessly show, unconditionally. Most of our mothers establishing a very distinguishing model. By setting a bar so high, it seems as if, now-a-days especially, it is extremely difficult for some women to come even close to living up to those standards. The level of matriarchal loyalty, dedication, and success needed to give our men something to aspire to be brave, strong and confident for, is now-a-days, practically unfounded. Many women now-a-days live as a token of conflict and dissension, volatility and hostility, lasciviousness and infidelity. Conscientious women and mothers do their best to try and warn their sons against these possible snares. Then, later on, sometimes those sons will grow-up, and remember their mothers' wisdom in song. Memorializing the many ways they made great efforts to guide and direct their path. Hoping it would find them a life full of peace, happiness, and harmony. This song written by Philip Adams, echoes his mother's warnings for him to be watchful and diligent in his life-long commitments. Altogether, the song is a gentle and careful reminder that men and women need to be more dedicated to the roles they were intended to fulfill to one another. So, that together, the two become one, and are able to live in symbiotic bliss. Bliss, which is the gift and reward we are promised to receive for being mindful of our intended created purpose. A purpose that requires us to fulfill our God given roles, and duties, we are vitally needed to perform. Performing with modesty and dignity, in our relationships. God bless. Special thank you to Vicki Langdon for sharing one of her amazing photos of Philip's dear friend, David Jones, with his mother, Helen Carter of The Carter Family.
