Homeless-Booted Out

Hello. It’s the Chair Man, again, and there’s an old saying, “No good deed goes unpunished.” I’m sorry to say that can also hold true when helping the homeless.

Before we get to that, a little background information. Lately, we’ve shown you how the “Love Matters” outreach in Hickory, North Carolina has been lavishing love on those needing it most. They’ve taken the homeless on fun outings…and purchased food and new clothing for members of the group…

The group has been meeting weekly for an all you can eat lunch but despite what you are about to see, those homeless banquets are on hold for now. And we’re about to find out why.

I would like to tell you that a good time was had by all…but that’s not entirely true. The restaurant got a complaint about Love Matters members. A customer voiced concerns over the group’s hygiene. She agreed to go on camera and share her issues.

She did not know it, but virtually every member of the group HAD washed their hands before dining. That’s great advice for anyone starting a similar homeless ministry. At the cash register, leaders of “Love Matters” were asked by management not to return, leading to the broader problem, anti-homeless bias. This marks the second restaurant frowning upon the homeless group. While it is seen as a setback, plans are now underway to continue weekly events with food deliveries catered to an unspecified location.

Bottom line…when you know to do what’s right, you also know not to stop…because Love Matters.
