Manchester United may be one of the biggest and most successful clubs in world football - but Ben Foster hated his time at Old Trafford. The retired goalkeeper featured 23 times for the Red Devils between 2007 and 2010, where he won back-to-back League Cup titles. Foster started in the 2009 final success over Tottenham, where he was named as the man-of-the-match thanks to his penalty shootout heroics. However the ex-Wrexham shot-stopper, who spent two years on loan at Watford after joining United in 2005, has revealed he struggled with 'imposter syndrome'. And he has also stated he was in constant fear of making a mistake between the sticks, which ultimately led to errors and eventual criticism. Appearing on talkSPORT Drive, Foster opened up on his time under Sir Alex Ferguson, where he said: "I look back at that person who played for Manchester United back then, and it's not me, honestly. "I was so wet behind the ears, I didn't understand how anything worked in life really, I used to just look around. "[Andy Goldstein] said to me, 'It must be incredible, it must have been amazing,' and it wasn't. "I hated every second of it. Honestly, I didn't enjoy it. "I was nervous, I was petrified of making a mistake, petrified of what the outside world would say about it. "And that's a bad way to go about it, isn't it? "When you go to games thinking and fearing the worst, 'Don't make a mistake,' you're off to a bad start straight away."I'd look around at some of these big names around me, and I'd just think, 'How have I got here? Foster featured in just 12 Premier League games for United having failed to oust Edwin van der Sar to become the club's No1. He joined Birmingham in 2010, where he won a third consecutive League Cup, with the Blues shocking Arsenal to win 2-1. And he has declared that lifting the trophy with the Blues meant so much more, as he said: "We were underdogs to win it, we were 16-1. "We won the game, we were fighting relegation, they were right at the top, they had Cesc Fabregas [Robin] Van Persie, Jack Wilshere.
