This song seems to be coming back to the front line these days. It surely is a bad time to be the human race, that's not in doubt. I thought it was in enough turmoil when I wrote this song, back in 1987. Back then, I was, what, 26 and single, and I sang this with the view of the world those cards presented; now, I sing it at 62, the father of an 11 and a 9-year-old, knowing we're holding 20 and the dealer is going to lay another card unless we do more than yell "Stick!" Thing is, you never know how thirsty you are until someone salts the well.
