In January 2023, Steve Quest ( @Montagraph ) filed a lawsuit against Nick Rekieta ( @RekietaLaw ) alleging claims of defamation during multiple live streams in 2022. In the motion to dismiss, Nick argued that Colorado (Montegraph's state of residency) law should apply and therefore allow Colorado's Anti-SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation) laws to be applied and cause the case to be dismissed instead of Minnesota law.

The trial court ruled initially that Minnesota law applied and denied Nick's motion. Nick filed an interlocutory appeal to have the Colorado Anti-Slapp law applied in the hopes it will lead to the case being dismissed at the trial court.

On October 21, 2021 a death occurred on the set of a movie called "Rust" being filmed outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico. The Director of Photography, Halanya Hutchins was stuck and killed by a round of live ammunition fired from a prop gun held by actor, Alec Baldwin.

During the investigation of the shooting it was discovered that proper procedures for handling prop firearms on a movie set was not followed as well as the fact that some rounds of live ammunition made their way onto the movie set.

As a result, Hannah Reed was charged with Involuntary Manslaughter and Evidence Tampering. She faces up to 18 months in prison, on each count, if convicted.
