Disney had the live action remake race swap version of The Little Mermaid, and the animated movies Elemental and Wish, in which both didn't do too well at the box office and Disney+ for different reasons.
Universal Studios came up with the collaboration with Mattel the Barbie live action movie, and the live action movie Oppenheimer which is based off Julius Oppenheimer's missile that was used in WW2, which those went well. However, Indian Jones and The Lost Dial Of Destiny wasn't appealing, and the animated movie Ruby Gilman Teenage Kraken did okay. Even though the SAG-AFTRA strike happened which caused a distraction for the writers, it was good.

The original movie budget was $70 million, but only made $46.2 million at the box office.
To make it worth it, creators thought of making a TV show.
This allows viewers to know about other characters' backgrounds.
Also, we can dig into Ruby and Chelsea's friendship and how they interact with each other.
Shows like Penguins of Madagascar are based off of the Madagascar movie; the first and third one, That show eventually got its own movie. That franchise was very popular.
There is also one focusing on the lemurs, but that series wasn't so popular.
Since Disney's Elemental is getting its own TV show soon and a 2nd movie like Lilo and Stitch, Ruby Gilman Teenage Kraken might be able to beat the lemurs and is a decent show based off the movie having episodes from before, present, and future parts of the movie.
