Solving EV Charging Issues: Tesla's Strategic Move

Ford electric car drivers can plug into the Supercharger network. You can bet more makers will follow.
Nearly every global automaker has now pledged to add that plug to its electric vehicles, allowing its drivers to tap into the Tesla charging network.

The Ford Mach-E Mustang and Ford Lightning pickup truck will now have access to a good portion of Tesla’s Supercharger network. Ford will offer through the Ford website a free adapter that will go their vehicles and the Tesla Superchargers. Get one quickly as of the end of July they’ll cost driver $230 for the adapter. The company expects the adapters to begin shipping in late March.

Tesla is building new stations but has reserved a select few newer ones for its drivers only. The plug problem is predominantly an American one. In Europe, all EV makers use the same type of connector.

Now all three Detroit automakers (Ford, Stellantis, and General Motors), plus Volkswagen, Toyota, Hyundai, and others, have committed to using the plug.
