How specifically do all modern-day white Americans benefit from the fact that slavery existed? How do these same alleged benefits not also extend to black Americans? Do black Americans today not have certain rights? Do they not have the opportunity to increase their wealth and move up in the world? Are they in some way not fully American?

The uncomfortable truth is that if any American alive today benefits from slavery having existed over 150 years ago, then all Americans do. The parts that slaves built don’t service only modern-day white Americans; they serve us all.

And further explain to me how it’s moral or just to saddle an entire group of people—or even any one person—with a debt that they never agreed to and that they don’t owe?

Finally, explain to me how an individual who’s obviously well-off with nice clothes and a nice place to live could still have the audacity to demand money from any American with a light enough skin color—regardless of whether or not those latter folks are themselves financially struggling.
