Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) and a buck rutting are two different phenomena in deer populations.

CWD affects the brain and nervous system of infected animals, leading to emaciation, abnormal behavior, and eventual death. On the other hand, rutting behavior in bucks refers to their breeding season. During rutting, bucks become more aggressive and active in seeking out mates. They engage in behaviors such as scraping the ground, rubbing trees with their antlers, and vocalizing to attract does. Rutting behavior is an annual occurrence in deer populations and is driven by hormonal changes triggered by photoperiod (day length).
