Active phase of the Sea Security Belt-2024 International Naval Exercise

13.03.24 - takes place in the Gulf of Oman

In total, the exercise involves more than 20 ships, support ships, and warships of the Russian Navy, the Iranian Navy, and PLA Navy. Its primary purpose is stated here to be to practise safety in maritime economic activities.

▫️The Pacific Fleet's detachment of ships made of the guards missile cruiser Varyag and frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov practised joint tactical manoeuvres and underwent signal drills with crews of the Iranian and Chinese navies.

▫️In addition to manoeuvres, the ships of three countries performed high-calibre machine guns and small-calibre onboard artillery live fires at surface and aerial targets imitating unmanned aerial vehicles.

▫️Today, the participants of the drills will perform the release of a ship hijacked by pirates, involving helicopters and boarding teams.

▫️ The final phase of the exercise will take place on 14 March on the shores of the Iranian city of Chehbehar. A debriefing will take place there as well.

The Sea Security Belt-2024 International Naval Exercise is held for the sixth time. For the first time, representatives of Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Oman, India, and South Africa will participate as observers in the exercise. Source
