Las Vegas police shoot, kill man after armed robbery

Las Vegas police fatally shot a man who had just committed an armed robbery outside a retail store in the central valley, as reported by Metro police.

According to authorities, the incident occurred on Wednesday at 7:41 p.m. when they received a report of a knife-wielding individual robbing someone outside Target in the 4000 block of South Maryland Parkway near East Flamingo Road. Upon arrival, Metro police confronted the armed suspect, instructing him to drop his weapon and surrender. Despite repeated verbal commands, the suspect refused to comply.

"The suspect then charged at an officer, prompting the officer to discharge his firearm, striking the suspect," explained Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Captain Joshua Martinez in a statement to 8 News Now. Despite receiving medical attention, the suspect succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Fortunately, none of the officers involved sustained any harm during the confrontation, according to police.

Target's manager confirmed to 8 News Now that the store intended to remain open during the ongoing investigation on Wednesday night.

The identity of the officer involved will be disclosed within 48 hours of the incident, with further updates provided by LVMPD within 72 hours.

As of 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Flamingo Road remained closed in both directions between Maryland Parkway and Cambridge Street, as reported by RTC of Southern Nevada. Commuters were advised to seek alternate routes.

This marks the third officer-involved shooting in LVMPD's jurisdiction for the year 2024.
