A nuclear test awakens a prehistoric sea monster that was frozen in the Arctic ice. When no one believes him, the nuclear physicist who witnessed it (Paul Hubschmid) solicits help from a paleontologist (Cecil Kellaway) and his assistant (Paula Raymond). As the rampaging beast approaches New York City, he works together with a military man (Kenneth Tobey) to stop it.
