Planet Wide Embargo

The idea of an embargo is pretty simple and applies to the concept of trade sanctions. It is an old concept, most apparent in its use with Japan in the 16th century by the Portuguese, ruled by the religious order of the Universal Church. However, an embargo across the planet would seem like a grand undertaking, improbably to succeed. Yet, such a thing appears to be in store for the world, a consequence of eliminating the oppressive rule of certain foreign investors. As they saying goes, they would rather rule over the ashes, then give up their claimed control.
