Francis Scott Key Bridge Collapsed in Maryland !
The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore suffered a partial structural collapse after being struck by a cargo ship early Tuesday. This incident caused several vehicles to plunge into the Patapsco River. The bridge, which spans the river on the I-695 beltway, is approximately 1.6 miles long and holds historical significance. It was named after Francis Scott Key, who was inspired to write the words of the U.S. national anthem (“The Star-Spangled Banner”) in 1814 while observing the American flag being raised at Fort McHenry during the War of 1812. Key’s poetic tribute later became the official anthem of the United States. The bridge construction began in 1972 and was completed in March 1977, serving as an essential link on the Baltimore Beltway. The recent collision with the cargo ship has caused significant damage and prompted search and rescue efforts for any affected individuals.
