Farmers Protest WorldWide
Greetings world.
We are Anonymous.
From tractor rallies in India, to spraying police with manure in Belgium. Protests by European and Indian farmers are making headlines worldwide. While the grievances behind the protests vary from country to country, one thing is for certain. Farmers are tired of the current global agriculture policies.
All farmers across Europe, have been organizing within their regions, and even across borders, expanding a protest movement centered around the disagreement with the European Union new farming policies. Farmers began protesting in Europe in spring of 2023. In Poland, Romania, and even Bulgaria, has been sparked by Ukrainian grain imports. Farmers argue that, Ukrainian grain is a cheaper produce, that does not follow the European Union standards, and therefore, presents an unfair competition in the market. Those initial protests, began spreading to Germany, France, Italy, Greece, and even in Spain.
In India, farmers are protesting in the state of Punjab, to guarantee a minimum purchase price for crops.
Since the 1980's, various regulations that ensured fair prices for European farmers have been dismantled. The European Union put all its faith in free trade agreements, which placed all the world’s farmers in competition with each other, encouraging them to produce at the lowest possible price, and at the cost of their own incomes and growing debt.
Numerous European Union countries have seen furious protests against the bloc's agricultural policies and the effect of Ukrainian grain imports.
There is no backing down now.
The protesters are demanding a withdrawal from the European Union's Green Deal, a plan meant to so-call fight climate change, and so-call protect biodiversity, with plans that include requiring farmers, to reduce the excessive use of polluting chemicals, to boost their crops.
The protests have led politicians to water down some provisions.
The protesters also want the Polish-Ukrainian border closed, to stop the imports of Ukrainian food products, which farmers say, drive down market prices, and put Poland's agricultural sector, in jeopardy.
The protest increased pressure on the still new government of Prime Minister Donald Tusk, a former president of the European Council, who is strongly pro-European Union, and seeks to support Ukraine.
Farmers are very angry at the European Union climate policies, and the food imports from Ukraine. Many protests have occurred across the 27-member European Union country.
Agriculture, forestry, and fishing, make up less than 3% of Poland's GDP.
