The phrase ‘Christ is King’ became the focus of conversation this week, not because it is Holy Week and millions of Christians around the world are celebrating the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, but because some people claimed the phrase was antisemitic and offensive to Jews. It caused a big controversy, but why? Jesus spoke more about His Kingdom than any other topic while He walked the earth, and He did claim to be a King. The Romans even mockingly fashioned Him a crown of thorns, which they placed on His head while He was executed on a crucifix. There were many Jews that were offended by His claim to be King over 2000 years ago, and it’s not surprising that many of the same kind of Jews would be offended by His Kingship today. However, the fact that some Jews are offended doesn't change the fact that He is King, and it has never stopped Christians from saying He is King.
