Russia Blocks UN Watchdog Tracking North Korea Sanctions Over Nuke Programme | Firstpost America
Russia has blocked the renewal of a panel of UN experts monitoring longstanding sanctions against North Korea over its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programmes. This comes a week after a UN panel said it was investigating reports that Russia violated rules by buying North Korean weapons for use in Ukraine. The US and its allies the UK and South Korea criticised Russia for its decision. Washington says Moscow's veto was a "corrupt bargain" with North Korea. Russia has repeatedly denied using North Korean weapons. Moscow's veto at the UNSC does not remove the sanctions on North Korea but disbands the expert group set up to monitor violations.
