US and Israeli official to hold virtual meeting on Rafah: Report

The Axios news outlet is reporting that the US and Israel will hold a virtual meeting later on Monday to discuss Rafah in southern Gaza where some 1 million Palestinians have taken refuge.

Israel has said it wants to invade the area, but the administration of US President Joe Biden is opposed to such an escalation.

Citing four US and Israeli officials it did not name, Axios said Monday's meeting would discuss the Biden administration's "alternative proposals" to the invasion. A second, in-person meeting, would follow next week, it added.
