The Republican Party has made a lot of changes over the past 20 years. It used to be Republicans that were more susceptible to war propaganda, and it took little convincing to get them to support military interventions abroad. It was Republicans that supported Bush's invasion of Iraq, and without the support within his own party it is unlikely that he would have had the political will to do it. However, since then the Republican Party has become less hawkish, and more doveish, when it comes to foreign policy and war. This is most clearly seen in the debate within the party over whether or not to continue supporting Ukraine. The vast majority of Republican voters don't want another dime to go to Ukraine, and this is a huge problem for the Speaker of the House, who is stuck between the war hawks and the 'isolationists' in his party.
