Demons vs Fallen Angels: A Biblical perspective

Are demons and fallen angels different beings?

There is a popular and relatively new teaching being propagated; mainly by the Charismatic movement that says demons and fallen angels are different beings.

These teachings go as follows.

1. The demons are the spirits of the Nephilim in Genesis 6, in which their bodies were destroyed in the flood, but their spirits remained on earth.

2. The demons are the spirits of a "pre Adamic" race that existed before Adam and were destroyed by a judgment from God.

It makes for an interesting science fiction movie, but sadly, these two things fall drastically short of the bible.

1. If the Lord destroyed the bodies of the Nephilim during the flood, why would He then allow their spirits to roam free and cause even more havoc by allowing them to possess people?

2. If demons were the spirits of a "pre Adamic" race, that would mean death came before Adam sinned. It would also make God a liar, since He said the beginning started in Genesis, where there is no mention of a previous race of beings.

So if the demons aren't the spirits of the Nephilim or a pre Adamic race, who are they?
